Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Vince Velasquez will be placed on the disabled list with a right elbow flexor strain after leaving Tuesday’s 7-2 loss against the Miami Marlins in just an inning and a third of work.
Velasquez is expected to return in two to four weeks and will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.
Phillies manager Pete Mackanin immediately took Velasquez out in the second inning after the 24-year old threw a 90.9-mile per hour fastball to J.T. Realmuto, down from his 95-mile per hour offering to beat Giancarlo Stanton in the previous frame.
With the loss, Velasquez now owns a 2-5 record on the season with a 5.52 ERA in 48.2 innings pitched.
