Cardinals RB David Johnson will undergo wrist surgery and is expected to miss 2-3 months. It’s impossible to know what structures he actually damaged with the information that’s currently out there, but the most commonly injured wrist ligament is the scapho-lunate ligament. X-rays are typically negative with this injury, and MRIs frequently don’t show the true severity which could explain the multiple day process for the decision to have surgery.

If untreated, can lead to chronic instability in the hand/wrist and decreased grip strength. Depending on severity of damage and actual surgery performed, typically cast/split for first 6 weeks post-op with minimal range of motion and strengthening allowed.

Then progressive increase in grip/hand strengthening and scar mobilization/desensitization. Important for proper football handling and control
