This condition is an inflammation of the triceps tendon, which connects the triceps muscle to the elbow. Triceps tendonitis causes pain and limits movement in the arm.
The triceps tendon can become inflamed and swollen from repeated stress during strenuous physical activity or sports. Motions such as throwing and hammering are common causes.
Symptoms may include pain in the elbow (during exercise or while at rest), swelling, and limited mobility of the elbow.
Treatment options can include cold compresses, anti-inflammatory medications, rest, or use of a brace to support the elbow. Physical therapy involving electric stimulation, stretching and strengthening exercises may also be used. Severe cases may require surgery.
