Update: Braun placed on DL

Ryan Braun

Braun, the 33-year-old Brewer outfielder, has been dealing with a couple different injuries that could ultimately send him to the DL. Braun has been dealing with a flexor strain in his forearm for the past several days now, but Wednesday he departed the game with a strain calf as well. It is unclear to the severity of each injury, but either way he will need to rest up and in the advent of this (awful) 10-day DL, it makes sense for Braun to be placed on it. So far this season he has been pretty effective, batting .287 with 7 HRs, 4 SBs and 18 RBI. Expect him to be placed on the disabled list today and possibly undergo a pair of MRIs, one for his forearm, and one for his calf. Depending on the severity of each, I would not be surprised if the Brewers held Braun out for 2-3 weeks.

Braun will likely be a trade candidate this deadline, as the Dodgers come to mind after losing Toles for the year, so he will need to be healthy enough to prove he can help a new team. The Brewers have been surprisingly impressive so far this year, especially Eric Thames and my offseason man-crush Keon Broxton, who is finally heating up. With Braun going to the DL, expect an outfield platoon of Broxton, Santana, and Thames, with Hernan Perez and Jesus Aguilar spending more time in the infield.
