Paul Millsap of the Atlanta Hawks was announced as a late scratch before the start of Saturday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers due to knee tightness, according to He is the Hawks leading scorer, averaging a career-high 18.1 points per game.

According to the Fantasy Doctor’s Dr. Selene Parekh, it is difficult to assess the issue until further details emerge, but it is likely just a day-to-day situation. If he continues to feel the discomfort, an MRI will need to be performed.

Ligaments of the knee

It will be just the fourth game the 32-year-old has missed this season. It comes at a difficult time for fantasy owners who may be in the playoffs right now.

They may just be resting the four-time All Star in preparation for the playoffs. However, he has struggled with knee issues at times in recent years. Still, it is more likely than not that he returns in the next few days considering

Ersan Illyasova slid into the starting lineup against the Trail Blazers and presumably will be the starting power forward until Millsap returns. Atlanta is Illyasova’s fifth team in the last two seasons. But he has been shooting the lights out of the ball since he has joined the team, despite limited minutes.

He has shot .483 percent from three-point range in his 12 games with Atlanta, but has only averaged 21 minutes per game. The stretch-four had been playing 27 minutes per game and scoring a career-high 14.8 points per game while with the 76ers this season. Because of his decreased playing time behind Paul Millsap in Atlanta, he has been dropped in many fantasy leagues. But fantasy owners should be well aware of the fantasy potential Illyasova has when given sufficient playing time.

The team has been looking to give rookie Taurean Prince more playing time. He could backup Illyasova as a smaller lineup, despite primarily being a small forward. Prince has scored 16 or more points in two of his last three games and plays great defense. Mike Muscala may find his way to more minutes as well, but neither are considered fantasy options.

He is a great fantasy asset in 12-team leagues as long as he is starting, if not he has very streaky value playing being Millsap.
