Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed fractured a bone in his hand in Tuesday’s 6-5 win against the St. Louis Cardinals in extra innings. In the eighth inning, Ahmed was at the plate when Cardinals relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal hit the defensive infielder in the hand, and Ahmed was removed immediately.

Depending on the bone involved and the location of the injury, Ahmed may be out anywhere from a day-to-day scenario to four weeks.

This season, Ahmed is slashing .251 with six home runs and 21 runs batted in for the upstart 50-28 Diamondbacks.
