Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Joaquin Benoit was placed on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to June 1 with a left knee sprain.
For Benoit, the severity of the sprain determines the rest of his recovery timetable. Best case, Benoit returns in one week, but in the worst scenario, Benoit may need six weeks on the sidelines to properly recover, using rest, anti-inflammatories and rehabilitation, with a potential MRI as well.
The Phillies called up Adam Morgan from Triple-A to replace the 39-year old’s production. Thus far, Benoit has been steady out of the bullpen, registering a 3.68 ERA in 23 appearances. If anything, Benoit’s injury may affect his movement prior to the trade deadline, when last-place Philadelphia will likely look to deal the veteran reliever.
