A.J. Pollock of the Dodgers is set to undergo a procedure on his elbow to evaluate for a possible infection.
He originally fractured his elbow in 2010 and underwent surgery for an olecranon fracture. He later had a repeat surgery n 2016 since the bone was not fully healed and the plate and screws were not holding.
He is now undergoing surgery to explore the elbow as there is a possibility of an infection. The surgeon will determine if the infection is superficial or if it extends into the bone. If it is superficial, then it could be few weeks or even months until he may return to play depending on the length of time that he needs antibiotics.
If the infection extends to the bone, then this could be a long term problem that could require multiple surgeries to clean the bone and re- repair the break. This could potentially mean several months off the field. More details to follow.
