Scooter Gennett suffers serious groin injury-Dr. Morse
Kyle Seager undergoes surgery, now what?-Dr. Patel
Kyle Seager of the Seattle Mariners has successfully undergone surgery to repair a tendon in his tendon and will be out for 10- 12 weeks. He injured his hand after diving awkwardly for a ball last week.
It has been reported that he had surgery for an “extensor tendon” in his finger. These injuries occur in athletes from forceful disruption of the tendon from the bone. They most commonly occur at the joint at the tip of the finger or at the second joint from the tip of the finger. These are usually treated without surgery with a splint unless the injury causes deformity in the finger despite splinting or if the original injury cut through the skin.
Surgery involves anchoring the tendon back to bone and starting protected range of motion depending on the quality of the tissue. Most patients can expect to have some stiffness even after a prolonged course of therapy.
