Ryan Madson on DL with lumbar nerve root irritation
Lumbar nerve root irritation is another way of saying sciatica. This usually happens when a nerve in the lower section of the spine is irritated, generally by a disc bulge or bone spur. The root becomes inflamed and symptoms generally include pain, numbness and in severe cases, weakness. The area of the symptoms will correspond to whichever nerve is affected.
Treatment usually includes steroids and NSAIDs for the inflammation, combined with PT. More significant cases would be treated with epidural steroid injections and possibly surgery.
RTP depends on severity, and could range from 1-2 weeks up to 4-6 months (for surgery cases).
Leonys Martin dealing with life-threatening bacterial infection
Cleveland Indians OF Leonys Martin has been diagnosed with a bacterial infection in his blood (bacteremia). This resulted in damage to the organs and functionality. They will culture the bacteria and see which antibiotics it’s susceptible to and will treat it with intravenous antibiotics. Return to play is really difficult to assess since we have no idea what type of “organ injury” he has.
