Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant suffered a mild to moderate ankle sprain after leaving Wednesday’s 8-4 loss against the Washington Nationals in the fifth inning. Bryant stepped awkwardly on third base while catching a pop up and needed help getting off the field.
Because his x-rays were negative for a break, Bryant should be listed as day-to-day right now. The Cubs are still debating whether he needs a quick stint on the 10-day disabled list, and the reigning National League Most Valuable Player will be held out of Thursday’s contest.
Bryant is batting .264 with 16 home runs and 32 runs batted in for the defending World Series Champions in 2017.
