Talkin Crazy-Week 11 BOLD Predictions

David Lorenz, PT, DPT

November 19, 2022

Another week into the NFL season, and more craziness ensues. The Eagles, the last of the undefeated teams, lost to the Commanders on MNF. Jeff Saturday got a win in his debut against the Raiders, and now he faces the former mentioned Eagles in Philly. The Bills had to move their home game against the Browns to Detroit due to the insane amount of snow they received in upstate New York. The Titans got a big win in Green Bay on Thursday night, only to have their offensive coordinator arrested on suspicion of DUI in the wee hours of Friday morning. What will this weekend of NFL action provide us? Let’s take a look at some headlines & news out of the league this week and discuss whether the news is legitimate, or if we’re all just talkin’ crazy. But, before we do that, let’s recap the TNF game, discuss last week’s headlines/predictions, and lastly, the miscellaneous bold predictions of the coming week. Titans 27, Packers 17 Titans top performer(s): Coming into this game, just about everyone knew a healthy dose of Derrick Henry was coming against the Packers. Henry received close to 30 carries, scored a TD, and even threw a pop pass TD to Austin Hooper. Treylon Burks had a nice game too, as he continues to build a rapport with Ryan Tannehill after returning from IR. Henry is clearly a must start each week, but Burks is quickly ascending into the flex tier. Packers top performer(s): Just when we thought the Packers might go on a run and sneak into the playoffs, they follow up their comeback win against the Cowboys with another disappointing loss, in a season full of them. The run game continues to be inconsistent, however they were facing a really stout Titans run defense. The star in this one, for now two weeks in a row, was rookie WR Christian Watson, who caught both of Rodgers’ TD passes. If you need some WR production due to injuries or bye weeks, you could do much, much worse than Watson. Last Week’s Headlines: Headline: Jeff Saturday is the Right Man to Lead the Colts. Verdict: Legitimate, but Colts will Lose a LOT Well, I guess I got this one partially correct? I thought the Jeff Saturday hire was great from a rah-rah, let’s stay in this together, group cohesiveness standpoint. However, I was concerned about the overall offensive/defensive schemes and thought the losses would continue to mount. Saturday started off his career 1-0 by doing the right thing and putting Matt Ryan back as the starting QB. I get Ryan has not been great this year, or even remotely good, but have you seen Sam Ehlinger? The Colts got a nice win in Saturday’s debut, but it was against the Raiders. Let’s see how they fare against the Eagles this week, who are coming off their first loss of the season. Headline: The Bills Are in Trouble with Josh Allen’s Injury. Verdict: Talkin’ Crazy. In what could go down as the game of the year, Allen threw for over 300 yards, but he was far from the usual Josh Allen that we’re used to seeing. He threw 2 INTs and obviously had the costly fumble at the goal line that gave the Vikings the lead late in the fourth quarter. I still think this injury will aggravate Allen the rest of the season, but he will continue to play through it. At what level? We’re all waiting and watching…. Miscellaneous Quick Hits of Week 10: The Cardinals will lose to the Rams this week, with or without Kyler Murray. Maybe this is me hoping for this to occur for the drama on Hard Knocks, but it seems like the Cardinals are ripe for a continued spiral. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kliff Kingsbury does not make it to the end of the season. The Rams stink. That’s all I have to say about that. The Eagles roll against Washington on Monday night and stay undefeated. The Commanders controlled the clock (over 40 minutes time of possession) and forced Philly to uncharacteristically turn the ball over and commit silly penalties. All in all, this ended up as another L on the week for me, The 49ers win big against the Chargers on Sunday night. Well, they won. So that’s a plus. Dallas will cover (currently -4) against the Packers. Safe to say this was not the best week for me regarding bold predictions. JT has a massive, 2021-like, performance against the Raiders, but the Colts still lose. Another half right, half wrong prediction here. Taylor did have the game that all of those who drafted him number 1 overall were hoping for. However, the Colts did win the game. Tom Brady and the Bucs get the win against the Seahawks in Munich, Germany. Finally! Nailed this one, and it seems like the Bucs should be well on their way to winning the NFC South again. This Week’s (Week 11) Headlines: Headline: Fade All Rams Players What a difference half of a season can make. The defending Super Bowl champions are 3-6, and the 3-7 Saints are 2.5 point favorites over the visiting Rams. Who would’ve thought that at this point, all Rams players are non-starters from a fantasy football standpoint. Much of this is due to Cooper Kupp’s injury, but the point remains the same. Fade all Rams players. Verdict: Legitimate. Headline: The Cowboys Will Continue Their Slide Against the Vikings How will the Cowboys respond to their abysmal fourth quarter collapse against the Packers? Things sure do not get easier this week as they head to Minnesota to face the 8-1 Vikings. Unless the Cowboys stick with the ground and pound style and control the time of possession by a significant margin, I just don’t see a way they win this game. Verdict: Legitimate. Miscellaneous Quick Hits: Remember a few weeks back when I said that all NFL stadiums should switch to a natural playing surface? Aaron Rodgers spoke out on the subject this past week and agreed. If you missed it, check it out here. Devonta Smith is going to have a breakout game against the Colts this week. I expect Stephon Gillmore to shadow AJ Brown, and with Dallas Goedert being placed on IR, I’m looking at Smitty to receive a large portion of those targets. 49ers cover (-8) against the Cardinals on Monday Night Football in Mexico City. Justin Fields will rush for over 100 yards again this week against the Falcons, but the Falcons will win the game. Let’s hope I have a better week this week than last! As always, we will check the receipts next week.
