Desperate? Pickups that Can Help During Hard Times-Week 5

Colin Belyeu

October 7, 2022

We are approaching the middle of the season, and as we all know injuries alter our fantasy football plans.  Staying ahead of the curve and taking chances on players nobody may expect can help you get through rough periods.

Brian Robinson Jr.

I don't expect Robinson to be available in many dynasty leagues, but maybe some redraft leagues he may have been forgotten about.  His Wolverine type recovery from gun shot wounds is unheard of. If your league members are sleeping on him, then be sure to obtain his services now. Not sure when he will return, but week 5 is a possibility.

Andy Dalton

Andy isn't exactly your top choice for starter, but for some teams that carry just one passer, Dalton could be a decent pickup if your struggling for a passer right now. I don't expect any crazy numbers, but sometimes you just need a starter and someone who can at least get a few completions. Then hope and pray the receivers can take advantage of yards after catch.

N'Keal Harry

SOOOOOO HEAR ME OUT.... BUST, injury prone, drops balls etc. So nobody is high on N'Keal Harry, I get it. At some point, a wide receiver needs to establish themselves in the Bears offense. So why not play a game of dart throws? In Bears training camp Harry showed good chemistry with Justin Fields before injury. Maybe he finally puts it all together. If you have the room you can stash him and see. After all, Darnell Mooney and Cole Kmet have similar points per week to Harry. He may come off IR soon and in deeper leagues you could give him a 2-3 week tryout period.

Antoine Wesley

Again, another one of my throws of the old dart here. Wesley has actually had production going back to last year when DeAndre Hopkins was out. Yes that is correct and D Hop is still out for the time being.  The Cards could use a big body target, especially for red zone usage. A.J. Green isn't what he used to be and Kyler could increasingly look to Wesley.

Kyren Williams

Sean McVay hinted at some type of role for Williams before the season started. Seeing as the top two running backs haven't been the most productive, Williams could get some looks. Week 6 is a possible return time for him.  He is more of a dynasty stash, and running backs are always a value if they can even just have a passing down role.

Khalil Shakir

Khalil was a guy making plays left and right during training camp. Being a rookie and behind some stud receivers limits his ceiling. With some injuries he has moved up the depth chart. With his potential and Josh Allen delivering balls, he may take off and not look back. Assuming opportunity knocks. That said, he is more of a dynasty guy.
